RYA Yachtmaster Exam
On days 5 & 6, an independent RYA examiner will conduct the RYA Coastal Skipper or RYA Yachtmaster Offshore exam. Candidates are given the opportunity by the examiner to demonstrate knowledge or competence in a range of theoretical and practical situations.
In each section, the examiner will expect to see the candidate take full responsibility for the management of the yacht and crew – this is where your experience and knowledge will show. This is the most important assessment that your examiner will make -a good skipper leads the crew and communicates with them, making sure they understand what is going on and listening to them when they have something to say. In the Coastal Skipper exam, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate the understanding of a broad range of situations. You may not have had the opportunity to practice all aspects of the syllabus under a range of different weather conditions, however, this is taken into consideration.
In the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore exam, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate competence based on a broad experience of situations and conditions.
Cost: GBP 1055 per person.
Includes: 4 day preparation course, 1 or 2 day RYA exam plus use of yacht, share of examiner’s expenses, and RYA exam fee.
