Uk to the Algarve 2007 - 2007-09-10

Sark on route South

After a hectic 10 weeks in England Chao Lay heads south heading for the winter sun. There are some changes on board with Fran spending 9 months in the UK to finalise her UK passport, her arrival back on board will be keenly awaited. Alex has spent the summer bring his sailing qualifications up to date, finalising his commercially endorsed yachtmaster and adding the industry standard STCW1-4. Cowes Week was enjoyed with Barry on day in the races; it is always a pleasure to race on this classic yacht. It was lovely to meet up with friends from the Caribbean and enjoy some great evenings on the Beaulieu River from the Caribbean. The itinerary will take Chao lay on a relaxed cruise down to the Algarve; there are still berths available for this Gaelic tour. The North Brittany Cruise in Glorious Autumn weather took in the Delights of Sark, Treguier, L'Aberwrach, Camaret, The river Aulne and Brest, Crew changed with Dad leaving and Mary joining Chao Lay for the Biscay crossing. We crossed Biscay in two days with a twin head sail run out of Brest, followed by 18 hours of motor, and a free reach into Ria Barquero. North Spain is as beautiful as ever and the last of the summer is still here. The Portugese trades offered a slay ride down the coast, so we jumped on, great sailing on a scrap of headsail, new boat speed record of 14.8 knots, I will put the photo on. Looking forward to enjoying some local menu del dia. The sailing and countryside in Andalucia has been fantastic, sailing up the river Guadiana in company had everything, brillant wild life, beautiful countryside and fun sailing.
